I try very hard to make my classroom a place where students learn more than just math, reading, and science. I try to introduce them to things that they may need for the future, or even things from the past. One of my favorite stories in our reading curriculum is called "The Goat in the Rug." It is about the tradition of Navajo rug weaving. We talk about the culture and their traditions and we can learn from them. Then, we weave our own designs using a paper plate loom and acrylic yarn. My students LOVE this story. They love it because it they become part of it. When students get excited about something, that bring me joy. Today was the day. They wanted to stay after school to continue. I said, "NO!"
