We finished the Gratitude Tree at the JCC. Each year, while we have served there, the youth have written things they are grateful for. Some are fluff. Others are extremely heartfelt. I love looking them over. The tree is pretty ugly at the beginning. As the grateful leaves are added, the tree becomes more beautiful. I thought about that today. My life can get pretty ugly unless I look at the blessings I have and focus on them. Then I realize how beautiful my life truly is. I am thankful for that lesson today. There is joy in finding our blessings.

I DID IT! I completed an entire year of blogging daily (minus a few days in June when I totally forgot with wedding plans and cruise plans but added four days I to one post so technically I only missed three days of an entire year). This blog has helped me realize that joy comes when we are actively seeking it. Without that action, I wouldn’t have recognized all these little things that make me happy. Hopefully this is a lesson I will remember my entire life. I think this quote by Robert Louis Stevenson says it exactly right and is the perfect spot to end this year of joy seeking.

McKenna surprised us by visiting today. I may have gotten a little testy-eyed when I saw her car in the driveway when we came home from church. She would help me get the Christmas decorating finished. I’ve really struggled with that this year. She helped us all laugh and we loved visiting with her. I love my children. They are a great source of joy. Now I eagerly await her text saying she has made it home.
